About Me

About Me: An image of Pete, black and white.

I am an autistic speaker, writer, tutor and parent, who is working to improve autism acceptance in society by sharing insights and experiences of autism to the widest possible audience.

I have spoken at many conferences and events, often as the keynote speaker, on topics such as autism in education, the experience of autistic students and teachers, the importance of monotropism and special interests and much more. Organisations I have worked with include:

  • The National Autistic Society,
  • Chartered Society of Physiotherapy,
  • Exertis,
  • Capita,
  • Durham County Council,
  • Daisy Chain Project
  • AsIAm Ireland
  • Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
  • Rush University Medical College, Chicago
  • Autism Canada
  • Museum Association
  • Autismo Espana
  • Warner Bros TV UK

I am also an autistic parent to a (possibly – as yet undiagnosed) autistic child.

I have written two books on the autistic experience – 2022’s What I Want to Talk About, published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, and 2023’s Untypical, published by HarperCollins.

Disclaimer: my writing is based primarily on my own experiences as an autistic person, and my understanding of other peoples’ general experience. It should in no way be a substitute for medical professional opinion or advice.
